The South Kona winds were quiet as I started my plein air oil painting. In the distance are Molokini and Kahoolawe Islands. I painted quickly as I glanced toward an approaching squall over the ocean. An hour later as I finished my painting the winds reached the beach lifting bits of sand into the air. Quickly, closing the lid to protect my work, I smiled realizing I was coming away with a few precious bits of this famous beach’s sand to enhance this Alla Prima scene.
